The training was conducted at the request of the Government of India (GoI). This training was intended to impart to the DANICS cadre probationers with a holistic knowledge of the different urban sectors that NIUA works in. Based on the sessions imparted by the SCBP team, the DANICS officers were capacitated in the aspects of Sustainable Sanitation and Water Management, Sanitation systems and service value chain, Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM) and Decentralised Wastewater Management. The interactive learning sessions were followed by a session on 'Framework for Safe Reuse of Used Water' by Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Former Deputy General, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and Dr. Vikrant Tyagi, Project Coordinator, GIZ. They deep-dived into the National Framework, which aims to mainstream the safe reuse of treated water among States. An interactive board game on city-level sanitation planning was introduced which facilitated hands-on learning, challenging decision-makers to plan sanitation systems for a diverse city considering factors like population, existing sanitation infrastructure and proximity to Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). Through discussions, participants collaboratively made decisions on selecting suitable sanitation technologies. To further consolidate the learnings from the training sessions, the officers then went on an exposure visit to the 'New Moti Bagh Decentralised Wastewater Treatment Plant', New Delhi. Through the training, principles of Urban Water Management were advocated ensuring the officers were capacitated and sensitised towards their next big steps in the roles assigned to them.
