Academia Engagement

SCBP-NIUA in its Phase 1 initiated a multi-disciplinary engagement with 9 academic institutes to integrate non-sewered sanitation & FSSM into course curriculum through:
  • Certificate courses
  • Studios
  • Electives
  • Workshops
  • Faculty development programs
  • Research thesis and
  • Capstone projects.

Universities and academic institutes are best suited to integrate a conceptual and practical understanding of urban sanitation and waste water management challenges within the urban planning, engineering and social science and management domains.

SCBP provided an opportunity to students and faculty of universities and academic institutes to engage with studying and understanding urban sanitation systems in terms of centralised and decentralised sanitation system options for the 21st Century India; within the framework of Urban Planning(large vs small towns and their sanitation and waste water management needs), Engineering solutions(centralised and decentralised technology solutions and their O&M implications) and social context(addressing the poor settlements, slums and manual scavenging).
