WaSH Challenges for Sustainable Development in Small, Himalayan, Foothill Low-carbon, resilient water solutions for Himalayan, Foothill towns

This study examines WaSH challenges in Vikasnagar, Uttarakhand, highlighting unsustainable deep groundwater use and limited recharge potential. It proposes shifting to surface water from nearby rivers and reusing wastewater for agriculture. Key barriers include fragmented governance and limited capacity. The study recommends integrated water management through infrastructure upgrades, alternative sourcing, stronger local governance, inter-agency coordination, and community involvement to ensure a climate-resilient, energy-efficient urban water future.
